Jamie McKelvie Announces One for Sorrow
In the decaying heart of London, amidst the sunset of a new era, a chilling presence hunts the street, leaving a trail of crimson behind them. Is the Magpie—adorned in a plague-doctor mask with an obsidian-black overcoat and blades—an angel of vengeance, or an occult wraith, summoned from the deepest circles of hell?
After more than a decade, Jamie McKelvie (The Wicked + The Divine, Captain Carter) returns to creator-owned comics for One for Sorrow, a new gothic thriller that tracks the bloody trails of a serial killer during the final months of the Victorian Era. Set to debut in June 2024, this eagerly anticipated series is a new career-defining benchmark from one of the most stylized, progressive, and masterful voices in sequential storytelling.
One for Sorrow marks McKelvie’s first creator-owned project since his work on the GLAAD Media award-winning, Hugo and Eisner-nominated The Wicked + The Divine (with Kieron Gillen) and his first solo creator-owned project in over a decade. His iconic designs of characters such as Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Loki have moved off the comic page to feature in television and film.
To quote McKelvie, "It’s John Wick fired through the lens of Guillermo del Toro, full of kinetic action, bloody revenge, and ghostly mystery."
One for Sorrow will be available for pre-order on February 23 and will debut in comic shops and digitally via www.dstlry.co in June 2024. Additional open order and DTC variant covers will be announced leading up to launch.
